Great work done by Flaptor on analyzing 400 Millions tweets using Trendistic in order to rank the top 20 Twitter trending topics for 2009. The ranking is based on the percentage of Tweets who mentioned a specific topic or event during a particular day.

10. Happy Easter : 9.78% of Twitter users greeted their followers during Happy Easter.

9. Eurovision :  The music contest final got 9.93% of Tweets on that day.

8. Fireworks : The Traditional 4^th July celebration achieved 11.7% of all Tweets.

7. Jonas Brothers : Their live online concert took  12% of all Tweets during August 22^nd.

6. Thanksgiving : Another celebration and a massive numbers of Greetings…12.1%

5. Demi Lovato: Again, a Live online concert making fans gone wild. 12.6% of all tweets during her chat live on April 14^th.

4. Balloon: Remember the story of this little kid and the balloon? On real time he got 12.8% of all Tweets during 15^th of October.

3. Oscars : Hollywood Stars got big attention during February 23^rd  with 13% of all Tweets.

2. Kanye : His infamous speech during MTV awards created a peak of 14.3% tweets during September 13^th.

And who is the number one?

Is Michael Jackson. The king of Pop death made the biggest traffic peak ever on Twitter getting an astonishing 22.6% of all Tweets during that tragic day. Actually the sad news was spread via Twitter.
