2020: we didn´t stop climate change 0
During Copenhagen climate world forum Greenpeace developed a strong communicational campaign trying to create consciousness about climate change and push world leaders to take real actions against this phenomenon.
The campaign, displayed within Copenhagen airport, shows several world leaders like Obama, Merkel, and Brown among others by the year 2020 apologizing for not been able to stop the climate change at the right time. The message given by the aging politicians is clear : “ I´m sorry. We could have stopped catastrophic climate change…we didn´t.” The campaign call to action invites them to act now and change the future.
Before the world forum started, Kumi Naidoo, Greenpeace Internacional director mentoned that: “unless leaders like Zapatero, Obama, Merkel and Brown don´t come to this forum with the intention of signing an ambitious agreement agaisnt climate change, ther legacy will be hunger, massive migrations and misery. If this happens, apologies will not be enough.”
Unfortunately, these communicational efforts were not enough to mobilize World leaders and make a deep change. The forum was a sad spectacle of blaming games, cold politic tactics and egos.
Greenpeace objectives of getting a commitment from industrialized countries of 40% carbon emissions reductions, sustainability plan for tropical forest deforestation and global fund for climate change mitigation activities will need to wait until our leaders decide to open their minds and political agenda to a bigger objective…Save our planet.
