Official: Google launched Nexus One 0
After a series of speculations about Google’s launching their own mobile, the company announced today in Mountain View, California, their new mobile phone called Nexus One, which is described as a fast moving, bright and connected.
The device, manufactured by HTC, has a large screen OLED 3.7 ” with a trackball, runs on Android 2.1 software and includes innovations such as voice-activated keyboard, “live wallpapers” – moving photographs that move subtly in the background as you write text messages or look through your phonebook – and 3D photo gallery for a better media experience.
Nexus One is boasts compass, GPS, accelerometer, motion and light sensors and 5 megapixel camera with flash and Bluetooth. The device it’s only 130 grams in weight and 11.5 mm in width.
It also includes popular Google applications such as Gmail, Google Maps and Google Voice Navigation.
The company launched its first Android enabled mobile device almost two years ago as a way to penetrate the mobile market, but at that time it was attached to an operator network. Currently there are 20 devices with 59 operators in 48 countries using Android OS.
According to information released by Google today, Nexus One can only be purchased through their online store in the U.S., Hong Kong and Taiwan for $530 USD free or $180 USD with contract.
According to experts, Nexus One looks more like an improvement on latest Android based mobile phones launched into the market like Motorola Droid, but not like a radical change in the mobile device. There is no paradigm shift attached to Nexus One, but a highly improved user experience. For instance, Nexus One boasts a 5 megapixel camera compared with the iPhone’s 3 megapixels and has a 3.7in screen.
The decision by Google to push forward on its own, rather than take passive role to a more established mobile phone company, is perhaps one of the most significant steps. Despite the big amount of Android enabled handsets launched the last year by companies like Samsung and Motorola, Google decided to oversee the launch of the Nexus One itself.
Clearly, the fierce competition in the Smartphone segment is increasing and challenging Apple’s dominance, which already battling with Nokia, Palm, Microsoft as well as new BlackBerry models for a Smartphone market leadership.
Google hopes that it can get a foothold in the lucrative mobile phone market – and by doing so build links to hundreds of millions of people around the world, and use the information they can provide it. As a result of these plans, the company has invested heavily in its Android mobile software, which it has been offering for free to phone manufacturers in an attempt to get them to use it.
