More than five hours per month is the average time each person with internet access around the world remains in social networks, according to media consultancy and market research company Nielsen.

Even do these figures are just averages, there are no longer surprising, given the exponential growth of social networking. Compared with last year measurement people are spending on average two more hours every month on social networking activities.

Most of the time spent corresponds to social networking giant Facebook. The network with more than 350 million unique users per month worldwide, is leading (and gradually sweeps direct competitors like MySpace) all consumer rankings.

What people do besides updating their status and sneaking around people’s profile on internet?  Once satiated his curiosity about the cousin’s friend’s brother’s nephew, the average internet user spends his remaining time on blogs, online games, instant messaging (Twitter) and online job sites like Monster.

Particularly in the United States, the biggest site growth was Twitter, the microblogging site that quintupled the number of visitors in just one year, from nearly 3 million unique users in December 2008 to over 18 million in December 2009.
