New research into online behavior suggests that up to 44% of users using illegal download sites could be converted into paying music subscribers if services were priced correctly. Most of 44% P2P users would be willing to pay a small fee every month to continue downloading from their favorite sites on a legal basis.
Nevertheless, 29% said they would just migrate to another free online source. When it comes to pricing, most of users willing to pay stated that that £3.00-3.50 was a reasonable price for such a service while 25% were willing to pay up to £14.50 per month.
The report also analyzed business models around micro payments in the music industry for the future. It found that 28% of users would be willing to pay a fee of 10-20p to stream music without ad insertion.
This amount will be additional to a normal monthly subscription including advertising. In the other hand, 48% of respondents stated their lack of interest for paying streaming music sites like Spotify each month.
